We went to Disneyland right after Christmas with my husbands whole family. I knew it would be cold and maybe even rainy and I thought we all needed some Disney inspired hats! My littlest man was the best sport about wearing his hat and they turned out really cute! I was very happy with them. I also made one for my husband and my brother in law. And a Minnie Mouse one for myself. They sell infant Mickey Mouse hats at Disneyland but nothing any bigger. I was surprised and flattered by how many people asked where they could get one of my hats. Since Disneyland is one of my very favorite places I was so excited that other people enjoyed my hats as much as I did!
I think I have finally kicked the sickness out of my house. What a gloomy month this has been around here. My husband and kids have all been sick. Then of course the sickness was passed to me and back to them. The weather has been very dreary with an inversion and cold bitter days. I’ll be glad to see it all blow away and get a little sunshine back.
With all the sickness I haven’t gotten much done in the last few weeks but I have worked a little on a project that I am excited about. Right after the shooting in Connecticut a wonderful group of ladies came up with the idea to have people across the country makes squares to be stitched into blankets for the families of the victims of that horrible day. I was very blessed to be apart of making the squares. I”m glad that there are such loving and wonderful people across the country that have made it possible. It makes tragedies like this a little easier to cope with knowing that there are still good people in the world. Thank you ladies for letting me be apart of this special experience. I can only hope that the families who receive the blankets can enjoy them as much as a have loved helping to make them.
The winter cold has hit my house with a vengeance! There is nothing quite as sad as two toddlers felling miserable. My poor little guys are cuddled up on the couch with running noses and watery eyes staring of in a daze. I’ve been trying to work on some crochet projects but every time I pick up my hook my darlings whimper and reach for my hands. So for now I am surrendering and going to spend the day cuddled with my darlings and put the projects off for another day.
Taking every new year resolution in stride I started working on a few more today. Losing weight and being more active. I joined Weight Watchers last year and it was working really great. Then I started getting kind of lazy about it and letting my emotions take over my eating habits, something I am terrible about. But today started the fresh week after the new year so I am all in again. Weighed myself this morning and have been counting carefully everything that I eat. It’s always easiest on the first day- except that I am hungry. But I just keep reminding myself that I don’t need to eat that much and it will all be worth it. I am also apart of a new performing belly dancing troupe. We didn’t do any dancing in the month of December so I was so excited to get back to it today. Belly dancing is something else that I started last year, and have loved it.
It was never really something that I saw myself doing but a friend of mine asked my to come with her and so simply for the chance to spend time with her I said yes. I never excepted that I would be good at it or that I would love it so much. Today we picked out costumes and a new name for the troupe and started learning our new dance. It was so much fun and I can’t wait until next week to keep up the learning. Our first performance as a group will be this spring and I am excited about showing everyone what we have learned. Also next week I am starting a second dance class that is basically a belly dancing version of Zumba. It should be great exercise and a really fun class with some great ladies. On day one I am optimistic and excited about my goals. We’ll see how I feel in a week or two.
I haven’t learned too much about setting up my blog and home business yet other than what I already knew, but right after I made my last post a wonderful blogger that I follow, One Artsy Mama, decided to offer a blogging class to help teach newbies the best way to do things. So I am really excited about that. It couldn’t have come at a better time. The class starts in a few weeks and we will see what kind of things I will learn and how things will progress for me. All in all a great start to the new year.
One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is that I wanted to start a blog and a crochet business to help supplement my income. I have two young boys who I love and I stay home to raise.
In order to make ends meet I also watch two more kids that belong to a good friend of mine. Watching the four of them everyday certainly has it’s challenges but there is no where I would rather be. Unfortunately Some months the money I make from that just isn’t quite enough. I love crocheting and started wondering if I could start a business and make a little extra doing something that I love. I started following quite a few wonderful crafty ladies blogs and facebook accounts and discovered that there are definitely people who are willing to pay to have handmade crafts instead of just buying things at Walmart. So I am starting the process of getting my business going. First I have to start up an inventory so that there are things on hand once I get my business running. That’s going to be the hardest part I think right to begin with, I have to put the money forth to buy materials before I can start getting any of that in return. But I am excited to start making a lot of cute projects. Starting with hats of all sizes, scarves and fingerless gloves. I also have some pretty adorable patterns for newborn cocoon sets that I love making for sweet tiny babies. So here is to starting my new year out strong and getting my resolutions started. I hope that whoever joins me on my journey will enjoy the things I have to say and the creations that I make.
